The HEV Charger or simply Charger is a wall-attached device that restores armor points to its users.

OverviewEdit

The charger can be used by walking up to it, pressing and holding the USE key. The user's armor points will recover gradually until they are at full armor or until the charger is depleted. It can be used by multiple users.[1]

The charger's behavior depends on the game it is played on. In Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Condition Zero in both single player or multiplayer sessions, the charger can only provide up to 30 armor points before it gets depleted. Once the light goes out, a charger cannot be reused until it recharges, which takes 30 seconds after depletion. This is not the case with Counter-Strike: Condition Zero: Deleted Scenes as it follows the same rules as the Half-Life charger. The charger does not refill after being depleted and the amount of armor points provided scales with difficulty levels; 75 on Easy, 50 on Medium and 35 on Hard.[1]

Bugs & ExploitsEdit

Although HEV Chargers can still restore armor points, a bug that appeared during the Counter-Strike Beta (version 3.0), prevents armor points given through the charger or batteries from absorbing/reducing any damage unless a Kevlar Vest or Assault Suit had been picked prior. This still persists on the latest builds of Counter-Strike, Counter-Strike: Condition Zero and Counter-Strike: Condition Zero: Deleted Scenes.[2]

TriviaEdit

  • The HEV Charger is a brush entity, shared throughout the GoldSrc games.
    • As such, it only can only be placed during map creation.
  • Despite having difficulty scaling armor values throughout the GoldSrc games, Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Condition Zero ignore them as even the single player sessions in these games follow the multiplayer entity rules of the engine.[3]
