The Heckler and Koch G3/SG-1 is the Terrorist-exclusive semi-automatic sniper rifle. It costs $5000 and has 20-round magazines of 7.62x51mm ammo. The secondary fire activates its 2-10x scope. It has been in the game since version 1.0.

The G3/SG1 does the second most damage of any gun except for the AWP. Damage is slightly higher than that of the Scout (though ultimately, both guns result in 2-hit kills), but the G3/SG1 fires with far greater rapidity, as an semi-automatic sniper rifle. When zoomed in, the G3 has high accuracy even if the fire button is held down. Its high damage, high accuracy, low recoil and high rate of fire makes the G3 an exceptionally powerful and easy-to-use weapon. As a result, the term "Auto-sniper Noob" is often awarded to players who use this gun since it is believed to require relatively little skill to use. The G3 has a smaller magazine of its Counter-Terrorist counterpart, but packs a more powerful punch (typically requiring one fewer shot to kill). The G3 has acceptable accuracy even when unzoomed. At short ranges, the G3 is very deadly when fired unzoomed, so long as the target is aligned to the center of the screen.

In earlier versions, this gun was relatively ineffective due to an awkward problem in that the amount of recoil was improperly increased by the game when the player had a ping of more than 0. A related problem was that the recoil of the first few shots was wildly high and inconsistent, and often times, the gun had to be "warmed up" by firing a few early shots before accuracy could be maintained at its full rate of fire. In later and current versions, the recoil issues were "fixed" and effectively reduced, allowing the gun to be very accurate when used at full rate of fire when zoomed.

This weapon used to go under the name AK 4 in Sweden, and was the standard rifle of the Swedish Armed Forces until 1985, when the AK 5 took its place. The game's files and many players incorrectly call the gun a G3/SG-1. It is actually a HK-91, a similar rifle to the G3 but is specially designed for marksmen.
